Apple TV+’s hit sci-fi drama Severance appears to be officially rolling on its third season. Executive producer Ben Stiller offered the clearest confirmation yet in a cryptic social media post. Stiller took to Twitter with a quote from the show’s mythology, invoking Lumon Industries founder Kier Eagan: “To return to work is to return home.” Kier Eagan.
The post was accompanied by a deliberately blurry, pixelated still. It was styled to resemble grainy security footage of Helly R. and Mark S. running through the halls of Lumon Industries in a callback to the frantic sequence from the Season 2 finale in which the pair help Gemma to escape. The image wasn’t fresh Season 3 footage, so fans and outlets have read it as a stylistic tease rather than a literal first look. Still, the timing strongly suggests filming is now underway.
The update follows months of incremental progress reports rather than a hard confirmation. Apple TV+ programming chief Matt Cherniss recently said the show was “nearing production.” Stiller himself told The Tonight Show audiences the new season was “coming” and would arrive “soon-ish.” Star Adam Scott has also noted that filming a single episode can take as long as six weeks, meaning a full season shoot could stretch well over half a year.
Season 2 closed out its run in March 2025 to critical acclaim. It picked up two Primetime Emmy wins: Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Britt Lower and Outstanding Supporting Actor for Tramell Tillman. It also earned nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, along with nods for Adam Scott, Zach Cherry, John Turturro, Patricia Arquette, and director Jessica Lee Gagné, among others. Notably, Stiller has confirmed he will step back from directing Season 3 to focus on other projects, including a World War II film and another Meet the Parents installment. He remains closely involved as an executive producer.
Apple TV+ has not yet announced a release window for Season 3, and typically won’t until filming wraps. A three-year gap separated Seasons 1 and 2, largely due to the pandemic and the 2023 Hollywood strikes. This time, cast and crew have been vocal about their intention to deliver the next chapter faster. For now, fans will have to parse Stiller’s Kier-Eagan-flavored teases for clues.
