Netflix’s dark fantasy series Wednesday has successfully landed a second season.

The supernatural comedy charts Wednesday Addams’ (Jenna Ortega) years as a student at Nevermore Academy.

In season one, Wednesday attempted to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve the supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents 25 years ago — all while navigating her new and very tangled relationships at Nevermore.

“We can’t wait to dive headfirst into another season and explore the kooky, spooky world of Nevermore,” Wednesday Season 1 co-showrunners Miles Millar and Alfred Gough said in a statement.

“We just need to make sure Wednesday hasn’t emptied the pool first.”

The renewal news comes with a Twitter video announcement (see below) promising more torture ahead for Wednesday in Season 2.

“Wednesday sticks to her guns, and she’s not out to please anybody,” Ortega said. “Which, as someone who used to be an immense people pleaser, I really respect.”

The series famously (or should that read infamously?) broke Netflix records for most hours viewed in a single week over 2 consecutive weeks, pulling 341.23 million hours viewed in the first week, and 411.29 million hours viewed in the second.

Gough & Millar serve as showrunners/EPs/writers on the series, with Tim Burton as director and EP.

Executive producers include Steve Stark, Andrew Mittman (1.21 Entertainment), Kevin Miserocchi (Tee and Charles Addams Foundation), Kayla Alpert, Jonathan Glickman (Glickmania), Gail Berman, Tommy Harper, and Kevin Lafferty.

Wednesday’s first season stars Jenna Ortega (Wednesday Addams), Gwendoline Christie (Principal Larissa Weems), Jamie McShane (Sheriff Galpin), Percy Hynes White (Xavier Thorpe), Hunter Doohan (Tyler Galpin), Emma Myers (Enid Sinclair), Joy Sunday (Bianca Barclay), Naomi J Ogawa (Yoko Tanaka), Moosa Mostafa (Eugene Ottinger), Georgie Farmer (Ajax Petropolus), Riki Lindhome (Dr. Valerie Kinbott), with Christina Ricci (Marilyn Thornhill).

Additional cast includes Catherine Zeta-Jones (Morticia Addams), Luis Guzmán (Gomez Addams) and Isaac Ordonez (Pugsley Addams).

Season 1 of Wednesday is now streaming on Netflix.
