The wait for the next chapter in Westeros’s bloody civil war is nearly over.

HBO has officially released the first trailer for the highly anticipated third season of House of the Dragon, offering fans a fiery glimpse into the escalating conflict between Team Black and Team Green. Along with the new footage, the network confirmed that the eight-episode season will premiere on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at 9:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO, and will be available to stream simultaneously on Max.

Unlike its predecessor, which paced itself through the complex political maneuvers leading up to the Targaryen civil war, Season 3 is shaping up to be a relentless march toward total war. Fans can look forward to an uninterrupted, eight-week block of episodes leading up to the season finale on August 9.

Based on George R.R. Martin’s companion novel Fire & Blood, the series is set two00 years before the events of Game of Thrones, chronicling the internal power struggle that eventually led to the downfall of House Targaryen.

The massive ensemble cast is set to return, led by Matt Smith (Daemon Targaryen), Emma D’Arcy (Rhaenyra Targaryen), and Olivia Cooke (Alicent Hightower). They are joined by returning key players including Steve Toussaint, Rhys Ifans, Fabien Frankel, Ewan Mitchell, and Tom Glynn-Carney.

The upcoming season will also fully integrate a wave of newer cast additions and prominent figures introduced late last season, including Dan Fogler, Tommy Flanagan, Tom Cullen, James Norton, and Abubakar Salim.

Behind the scenes, Ryan Condal continues to steer the ship as co-creator, showrunner, and executive producer alongside co-creator George R.R. Martin. Executive producers Sara Hess, Melissa Bernstein, Kevin de la Noy, Vince Gerardis, David Hancock, and Philippa Goslett also round out the creative team for Season 3.

House of the Dragon Season 3 premieres June 21 on HBO and Max.
