FOOTBALL IS LIFE!
Apple TV’s hit comedy drama Ted Lasso continues to make waves.
The series just picked up awards for Best New Series and Best Comedy Series at tonight’s 2021 Writers Guild of America Awards.
Ted Lasso is the only comedy series honored as an AFI Program of the Year. It also won a Golden Globe award for lead Jason Sudeikis in the Best Comedy Actor category; three Critics Choice Award wins including Best Comedy Series, Best Actor in a Comedy Series for Sudeikis, and Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for Hannah Waddingham. Additionally, the series picked up noms from the Producers Guild of America for Comedy Series, plus two nominations from the Screen Actors Guild for Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Comedy Series and Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
The feel-good series follows the trials and tribulations of AFC Richmond, a struggling premiere league football club in England, who inexplicably land Ted Lasso (Sudeikis) as their new manager at the start of the new season.
However, as a former small-time college football coach from Kansas, Ted knows nothing about British football, and seems deliberately set up to fail by new club owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) who has an ambivalent relationship with the club and its former owner.
However the humble and altruistic Ted sees potential in the club, its players, and its management, and starts the slow process of turning the fortunes of AFC Richmond around, one disillusioned, jaded, underdog at a time.
The complete first season is available on Apple TV+ on the Apple TV app. The show has been renewed through seasons 2 and 3.
The series also stars Jeremy Swift, Phil Dunster, Brett Goldstein, Brendan Hunt, Nick Mohammed and Juno Temple.
