Megan Boone to Exit NBC’s “The Blacklist” Ahead of Season 9

Megan Boone will exit NBC’s The Blacklist ahead of season 9, according to Nellie Andreeva of Deadline.

Boone, who stars alongside James Spader in the long-running thriller as FBI Agent turned fugitive-on-the-run Elizabeth Keen, will make her last appearance as a series regular in the upcoming Season 8 finale.

The actress, who was notably absent for half of the current season, is already preparing for her next as yet unannounced role according to the report, with the decision being a mutual one between the actress, the Network and series producer Sony Pictures TV. To boot, the decision to ax Liz was made well ahead of the show’s January 2021 season 9 announcement.

With just two episodes remaining of the current eighth season, fans are anxious to know if Liz will receive answers to the questions about Spader’s Raymond “Red” Reddington that have haunted her since the show’s pilot episode. Why did Red choose Liz as his FBI point of contact, and what is his true relationship to her? Learning that Red is definitively N-13 now only makes those questions all the more pressing.

The Blacklist returns with 2 final episodes “Nachalo” on Wednesday, June 16, and “Konets” on Wednesday June 23.

Loglines for the upcoming episodes tease that when Reddington takes Liz to the mysterious epicenter of his empire, their shared past reveals itself and long buried secrets are divulged. However, Red then makes a disturbing request to Liz in exchange for the truth about his identity.

In a recent interview with TVInsider, series creator Jon Bokenkamp teased “We’re going to go back to the very beginning and unpack answers to eight years worth of questions.”

Fans of the series who have been following every breadcrumb for the last eight years will no doubt hold Bokenkamp to that promise tonight.
