A new teaser trailer for Alice in Borderland Season 3 dropped today, giving fans a first look at what to expect from the third season of the Japanese dystopian survival series.

Season 3 sees Kento Yamazaki and Tao Tsuchiya reprising their roles as hopeless lovers Arisu and Usagi. Netflix teases that fans can look forward to witnessing the evolution of their characters in the ever-dangerous landscape of Borderland.

The streamer adds that Shinsuke Sato’s continued direction will also ensure that the series maintains its trademark intensity and cinematic excellence.

Based on the manga series of the same name by Haro Aso, Alice in Borderland follows the story of Arisu after he is transported to a parallel universe in which he has to play and win a series of brutal games to remain alive. The games are divided into four categories represented by suits on a deck of playing cards. Hearts represent games with a strong emotional theme (players might be required to kill a teammate to win, for example). Spades represent physical games, Clubs are teamwork-themed, while Diamonds focus on mental acuity.

By the end of Season 2, after a fierce bloodbath, Arisu and Usagi defeat all the final face cards, and discover the true nature of the bizarre parallel world in which they were forced to compete.

However the final seconds of the finale panned to a deck of cards on a table outside, with a slight breeze blowing each off in turn to finally reveal a single remaining Joker card. This wildcard, it seems, will be a recurring theme in the third season.

Per Netflix: For now, the Joker card has appeared, declaring the triumphant return of Alice in Borderland. Fans can expect nothing short of an adrenaline-fueled rollercoaster ride as the series continues to explore profound themes of humanity, sacrifice, and the pursuit of a meaningful existence.

Season 2 of Alice in Borderland shot to Netflix’s Top 10 in over 90 countries, claiming the No. 1 spot in 17 of them. (In Japan, it held the top spot for 14 consecutive days.) The season also reached 200 million viewing hours worldwide, the highest of any title from Japan.

Season 3 is slated to premiere early September, 2025 on Netflix.
