Although it’s a little early in the year for renewal and cancellation news, it hasn’t stopped broadcasters and streamers alike from revealing the fates of a slew of TV shows this January.
ABC has joined the trend with an announcement on the fate of Abbott Elementary. The beloved workplace comedy has officially been renewed for Season 5, it was revealed today.
Abbott Elementary follows a group of dedicated, passionate teachers — and a slightly tone-deaf principal — who are brought together in a Philadelphia public school where, despite the odds stacked against them, they are determined to help their students succeed in life.
Though these incredible educators may be outnumbered and underfunded, they love what they do — even if they don’t love the school district’s less-than-stellar attitude toward educating children.
The series stars Quinta Brunson as Janine Teagues, Tyler James Williams as Gregory Eddie, Janelle James as Ava Coleman, Chris Perfetti as Jacob Hill, Lisa Ann Walter as Melissa Schemmenti, William Stanford Davis as Mr. Johnson and Sheryl Lee Ralph as Barbara Howard.
Quinta Brunson created the series and serves as executive producer alongside Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker of Delicious Non-Sequitur Productions, Randall Einhorn and Brian Rubenstein.
Abbott Elementary is the first ABC show to be renewed this year, and joins Matlock (CBS), St. Denis Medical (NBC), Murder in a Small Town (FOX), Universal Basic Guys (FOX) and The Lincoln Lawyer (Netflix) on the roster for 2025-26.
The Frasier reboot was announced as cancelled by Paramount+ this week.
