Check out the new Resident Evil Requiem world premiere trailer that dropped during Gamescom’s Opening Night on Tuesday, Aug. 19 2025.
The next chapter in the Resident Evil saga is set to blend survival horror with fresh mechanics, and a return to Racoon city, with Capcom boasting we are about to enter “a new era of survival horror.”
The trailer opens with a tense flashback scene some 8 years before the main events of the game, and feature a younger Grace Ashcroft and her mother, Alyssa Ashcroft (a character fans may already know from Resident Evil Outbreak). The sequence depicts the mother and daughter duo in a hotel room on a stormy night. However their conversation is cut short when a mysterious phone call and sudden power outage spark panic.
Alyssa urges Grace to flee as unknown assailants close in, including a robed figure who offs the hotel manager right before their eyes. The trailer blends cinematic storytelling with snippets of gameplay, showcasing Grace navigating dimly lit hotel corridors by torchlight in both first and third-person perspectives — a hybrid feature allowing players to switch views. The result is an unnerving combination of the immersive dread of Resident Evil 7 with the over-the-shoulder style of Resident Evil 4.
Years later, Grace, now an FBI analyst, will return to Racoon city to to investigate a series of strange deaths at the same hotel where her mother died.
While fan speculation about Leon S. Kennedy’s involvement persists, the trailer focuses solely on Grace, emphasizing her vulnerability and psychological depth as a new kind of Resident Evil hero.
We are in!
