The Oldest House has been breached, and Remedy’s trademark weirdness is spilling out into the world. Today, the Finnish Games Studio pulled back the curtain on a massive deep dive into Control: Resonant, the highly anticipated sequel that swaps the brutalist corridors of the FBC for the gravity-bending skyline of Manhattan.

Coming in 2026 (production is in the Alpha stage), here is everything we learned from today’s breakdown.

🌎 Setting & Story: Manhattan Under Siege

In a departure from the isolation of the first game, Resonant takes us to the streets of New York City. However, this isn’t the NYC we know, but rather an urban landscape warping under a relentless paranatural assault.

  • A New Protagonist & Handler: As we learned previously Resonant’s narrative shifts focus to Dylan Faden, who is navigating the chaos alongside his FBC field handler, Zoe De Vera. Their relationship serves as the emotional anchor of the story as Dylan grapples with his past and his newfound role.
  • Jesse Faden has not been confirmed as a playable character, although she will appear in the game. As yet Remedy has yet to spill the beans on additional character appearances including fan-favorites Doctor Casper Darling or Emily Pope. However, eagle-eyed fans have spotted Arish in stills from today’s hands-off play-through presented to select press.
  • Seamless Immersion: Say goodbye to awkward pauses for cutscenes. A new dynamic dialogue system allows character conversations to flow naturally while you’re moving, fighting, and exploring.
  • Dense, Not Bloated: Remedy is rejecting “open-world fatigue.” Manhattan is divided into handcrafted zones with distinct vibes and deep secrets, prioritizing density and atmosphere over sheer map size.
  • Streamlined Quests: The game categorizes content into three clear buckets:
    • Dylan’s Journey: The core cinematic campaign.
    • World Quests: Self-contained, narrative-heavy side stories.
    • Organic Activities: Challenges and discoveries that happen naturally as you explore.

🕹️ Combat & Gameplay: Finding Your Flow

The gameplay in Resonant is all about momentum. While the first game focused on telekinetic projectiles, the sequel introduces a “Momentum-Based Loop” that rewards aggressive, close-quarters combat.

  • The Aggression Loop: Melee hits generate resources for your abilities. Those abilities then stun enemies, allowing for brutal executions that, in turn, buff your melee damage. It’s a rhythmic dance of destruction.
  • The Aberrant: At the center of your arsenal is a transforming melee weapon. It features:
    • Primary & Secondary Forms: Switch between modes like heavy hammers or swift blades on the fly.
    • Combo Enders: Powerful finishing moves to cap off your assault.
    • Playstyle Variety: Whether you want to be a frontline brawler or a tactical mastermind, the game supports diverse builds. You can even deploy Mold Turrets to provide cover and status effects while you close the gap.

🗺️ Progression: Shaping the Psychic Superweapon

Progression in Resonant is deeper and more permanent than its predecessor, requiring players to make meaningful choices about who Dylan becomes.

  • The Gap: Need to tweak your loadout? Players can instantly access The Gap, a dreamlike hub tied to Dylan’s psyche. It serves as a surreal sanctuary where you manage builds away from the city’s chaos. Remedy compares it to Alan Wake II’s Mind Place.
  • Three Pillars of Power: Upgrades are built on Weapon Forms, Talents, and Supernatural Abilities. The most powerful abilities are earned the hard way: by defeating “Resonant” bosses — massive, reality-defying encounters that define the game’s scale.
  • Branching Choices: You won’t be a “jack-of-all-trades” here. The skill trees feature branching paths, meaning you cannot unlock every perk in a single playthrough. Your choices matter, giving Resonant significant replay value.

Control Resonant is Coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2026.
