Following last night’s State of Play gameplay segment, Sergey Mohov, Remedy Entertainment’s lead gameplay designer, sat down with PlayStation to talk specifics on Control Resonant.

The supernatural sequel to 2019’s Control sees former antagonist Dylan Faden (Sean Durrie) step into the ring as he battles an other-worldly threat that has warped the city of New York into a deadly kaleidoscope of Inception-level proportions.

Remedy shared the first extended gameplay trailer during the event, consisting of about 3–3½ minutes of actual in-engine footage, running on PS5 hardware. The video showcased focused on real combat, traversal, and world interactions, rather than just cinematics.

Dylan Faden, younger brother of Control protagonist Jesse (Courtney Hope), is confirmed as a playable lead in Control Resonant, marking a shift from the first game’s perspective. That doesn’t appear to be the only shift either. The demo featured heavy melee-driven combat, over Control’s previous action-adventure approach. (We have yet to see if Control Resonant will also feature Jesse as a playable character, or what her gameplay mechanics will be.)

The setting shown is a warped, paranaturally distorted Manhattan, with zones like the West Incursion Zone where reality itself bends, and buildings, streets, and gravity behave unpredictably. These areas are large, distinct zones with optional encounters, side activities, and secrets to discover, though the game is not a full open world.

Dylan can use supernatural abilities like Shift to manipulate his orientation, letting him walk on walls or navigate surfaces where gravity has shifted. Meanwhile, other powers, such as Reach, help him traverse twisted environments that defy normal physics.

A major focus in the trailer is combat using the Aberrant, a shapeshifting melee weapon that can transform into multiple forms (e.g., blades, hammer, scythe, etc.). Players can configure and unlock new forms and abilities, allowing for customized approaches to fights.

The trailer also introduced powerful foes known as Resonants — corrupted remnants of “once powerful individuals twisted by the paranatural crisis.”

Defeating Resonants is central to progression, as it unlocks new combat abilities and expands Dylan’s supernatural toolkit.

A new character, Zoe De Vera, an FBC Field Agent, was heard in the footage offering guidance to Dylan. Her role appears to be significant in the emerging narrative.

Control Resonant is confirmed for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam & Epic), and Mac with a 2026 release window.
