The Highly Anticipated Prequel Series Premiering July 1 has Already Been Renewed for Season Two

Prime Video is heading back to where it all began for one of pop culture’s most beloved characters. Elle, the upcoming Legally Blonde prequel series from Hello Sunshine and Amazon MGM Studios, will officially premiere July 1, streaming exclusively on Prime Video. Even before audiences get their first look, the series has already scored a major vote of confidence, with Prime Video ordering a second season ahead of its debut.

Set years before Elle Woods became a Harvard-bound legal powerhouse, Season One of Elle follows Elle during her high school years, exploring the formative experiences that shaped her into the confident, compassionate, and unstoppable young woman audiences first met in the original Legally Blonde film. The series offers a coming-of-age take on the character, blending heart, humor, and self-discovery while staying true to the spirit that made Elle Woods an icon.

Reese Witherspoon, who famously brought Elle Woods to life on the big screen and now serves as an executive producer, described the series as a full-circle moment. “Twenty-five years after the world met Elle Woods for the first time, it’s a dream come true to share the story of how she became the unstoppable force we all fell in love with,” Witherspoon said. She also praised Lexi Minetree, who steps into the role of a younger Elle, calling the casting process one of the most gratifying experiences of her career. Witherspoon added that the show’s themes of kindness, authenticity, and self-belief are designed to resonate with longtime fans and a new generation alike.

Prime Video echoed Witherspoon’s enthusiasm. Peter Friedlander, Global Head of Television at Amazon MGM Studios, said Elle captures the heart and optimism that defined the original films while offering a fresh perspective. “Ordering a second season speaks to our belief in the creative vision and the incredible team behind the series,” he said, noting the platform’s excitement for audiences to begin Elle’s journey this summer.

The series was created by Laura Kittrell (High School, Insecure), who co-showruns and executive produces alongside Caroline Dries. Witherspoon executive produces with Lauren Neustadter, Marc Platt, and Amanda Brown. Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) directed the first two episodes of Season One and also serves as an executive producer.

Leading the cast, Lexi Minetree stars as Elle Woods, joined by June Diane Raphael as her mother Eva and Tom Everett Scott as her father Wyatt. The ensemble also includes Gabrielle Policano, Jacob Moskovitz, Chandler Kinney, and Zac Looker, with recurring appearances from Jessica Belkin, Logan Shroyer, Amy Pietz, Matt Ober, Chloe Wepper, David Burtka, Brad Harder, Kayla Maisonet, Lisa Yamada, and James Van Der Beek.
