CBS has given a development/writers room order for a new medical drama series from seasoned CW showrunner Anna Fricke, starring Supernatural and Walker Alum Jared Padalecki.

In TV development, a “development room” or “writers’ room order” refers to a network paying a small group of writers to begin building out a potential series before officially green-lighting a pilot or a full season. This means that if Networks heads like the look of the first handful of episodes written, the series could go into full production at CBS studios.

This model has proved successful for a number of existing and upcoming projects on CBS, including Watson, now in its second season, Robert and Michelle King’s Cupertino, a legal drama about the tech industry in Silicon Valley, and new comedy series Eternally Yours.

Set in Texas, Fricke and Padalecki’s potential new series (currently without a working title) will highlight the practice of rural medicine.

The show focuses on a headstrong, devoted doctor (Padalecki) who practices his unique style of improvisational medicine alongside his new protégé, a young doctor escaping her past, as they operate a mobile clinic and heal the bodies and souls of their underserved community in the medical desert of rural Texas, according to sources.
