The Resident returns tonight with “In For a Penny,” an episode which sees several hard truths making the lives of our favorite docs all the more difficult.

We’ve seen the episode a little early, thanks to the PR folks at Fox, and have prepped some teasers for you ahead of tonight’s action.

As always, we make a point never to divulge major plot or character reveals that would spoil your enjoyment of the live episode. If you are in any doubt about our spoiler policy, you can read more about it via the link in this sentence.

Last Best Chance

It’s a big day for Devon who kicks off his clinical trial with patient number one tonight.

Meet kindly chemistry high school teacher Albert Soriano, and his worried wife Grace.

You’ll root for the likeable Albert, but when Devon’s risky treatment course threatens to end the life of his very first patient, his entire trial is thrown into serious doubt.

First Day on the Job

It’s Randolph’s first day on the Medical Board (look our for his Kit Voss-approved spiffy suit), and he’s already starting to make enemies.

When Dr. Bell wants to discuss a patient’s treatment following a botched operation that left her paralysed, he soon finds the board circling the wagons in order to protect the doctor in question.

Bell might have to take matters into his own hands in order to get to the bottom of this one.

A Kindred Spirit

Leela meets a kindred spirit this week in the form of recently admitted patient Mariana Gonzalez, a top architect who excels in her field, has controlling tendencies, an equally successful and busy partner, and no time to consider children as part of her future.

When Leela makes a “Conrad Hawkins-level” diagnosis on behalf of her patient, she is called to reflect upon her own feelings on motherhood. And with sister Padma still looking for Leela’s help in her own fertility journey, we get the impression this storyline still has plenty of life in it yet.

Conrad’s Romantic Overture

Conrad makes a small romantic overture this week, but soon after comes to the conclusion that there is only one woman in the world for him.

The Bigger Picture

Apart from having his advances turned down, Conrad will also find the time to become embroiled in a scandal that goes all the way to offices of the FBI this week.

The unfolding drama will also reveal more on Dr. Kincaid Sullivan, who we will come to realize is more of a hero than we might have initially given her credit for.

The “In for a Penny” episode of The Resident airs Tuesday, March 8 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX.
