The fog is rolling into Silent Hill once again, as Bloober Team officially shifts gears into full production on their remake of the 1999 survival horror classic, Silent Hill.
The news dropped during the Polish studio’s latest investor call, confirming that the project (first whispered about at Konami’s Press Start showcase in June) is now a top priority, following the release of their original IP, Cronos: The New Dawn. For fans still reeling from the hauntingly faithful Silent Hill 2 remake, this is a scream-worthy update that promises to drag Harry Mason’s desperate search for Cheryl back into the spotlight.
Bloober Team, riding high off the critical love for their 2024 Silent Hill 2 overhaul, has dedicated one of its two internal production teams to reimagining the game that started it all. “Our partnership with Konami continues to evolve,” said CEO Piotr Babieno during the call. “The success of Silent Hill 2 gave us the confidence to tackle the original’s legacy with the same respect and ambition.” The studio’s track record of transforming SH2’s clunky PS2 roots into a modern masterpiece with Unreal Engine 5 visuals sets a high bar with respect to this latest adaptation.
The original Silent Hill plunged players into the eerie, fog-choked town as Harry Mason, a grieving everyman hunting for his adopted daughter amid psychological terrors and cryptic cults. Its raw atmosphere and innovative sound design (thank you, Akira Yamaoka) cemented it as a horror cornerstone, though its blocky polygons and tank controls scream for a 2020s glow-up.
Konami’s broader Silent Hill renaissance adds context to the hype. With Silent Hill f ‘s recent debut, Silent Hill: Townfall slated for 2026, and whispers of in-house projects for 2028, the franchise is clawing its way back to prominence.
No release date or platform specifics have surfaced, but with full production underway, expect teases soon — perhaps at next year’s Game Awards. For now, the Silent Hill remake is shaping up as another descent into dread, and we’re ready to get lost in the mist again.
