As many Remedy fans are already aware, Sam Lake, drinker of coffee, dancer of dances, and creative director of Remedy Entertainment, is set to attend the New York Game Awards on January 21, 2025, to receive the Andrew Yoon Legend Award.

The accolade honors individuals who have made significant contributions to the video game industry. Lake’s double decade of influential work includes writing and directing acclaimed titles such as Max Payne, Alan Wake, and Control, which have been both celebrated and honored for their innovative narratives and immersive worlds.

The New York Videogame Critics Circle, organizers of the event, highlighted Lake’s impact, stating, “You know a Remedy game when you see it, largely due to Sam Lake’s impact on the worlds he creates.”

In addition to Lake’s recognition, the awards ceremony will feature appearances by actors closely associated with Remedy’s franchises. Matthew Porretta, the voice of Alan Wake in both games and their various DLCs, and the character of Doctor Casper Darling in Control, in addition to Janina Gavankar, who played FBC Agent Kiran Estevez in Alan Wake 2, and The Lake House DLC, and David Harewood, who played the enigmatic and inscrutable Warlin Door in Alan Wake 2, are slated to present awards and make special appearances.

Porretta will present the award for Best Acting in Game, while both Gavankar and Harewood are set to make “exciting appearances” on the night. Four Remedy creatives under one roof has sparked speculation about potential announcements or reveals related to Remedy’s upcoming projects including FBC: Firebreak (Remedy’s upcoming first multi-player game), the Max Payne Remakes (The project entered full production in the second quarter of 2024), and Control 2 (an action RPG and sequel to 2019’s Control). And for those among us who really want to get into wild speculation territory let’s not forget that Remedy’s partnership with Annapurna paves the way for taking both the Control and Alan Wake franchises to film and TV.

Considering the strategic timing, the possibility of a surprise reveal cannot be ignored.

Additionally, With Sam Lake’s history of engaging directly with fans and the assembled talent’s involvement across Remedy’s IPs, it’s not too much of a cognitive leap to imagine an announcement or teaser during the awards. Whether it’s a new teaser trailer, a hint at a timeline update, or a casting announcement, the event is bound to leave fans speculating and excited for what comes next.

The New York Game Awards is set to celebrate the best in gaming, and Remedy Entertainment’s substantial presence ensures it will be a night to remember. Whether their attendance leads to major reveals or simply serves as a reminder of the studio’s remarkable talent, one thing is certain: Remedy fans will want to keep their eyes on this event.
