For those in any doubt, yes The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power has officially been renewed for a third season at Prime Video, four months after the Streamer unofficially confirmed there was “no debate about whether or not the show will continue” beyond a second season.
Prime Video announced today that Season 3 of the sweeping fantasy epic, a prequel to the events of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, is in pre-production, and will begin filming this spring at the show’s new home at Shepperton Studios in the UK.

The streamer teases that jumping forward several years from the events of Season 2, Season 3 takes place at the height of the War of the Elves and Sauron, as the Dark Lord seeks to craft the One Ring that will give him the edge he needs to win the war and conquer all Middle-earth at last.
Also in the news today, Charlotte Brändström (Shōgun, The Witcher), and Sanaa Hamri (The Bondsman, The Wheel of Time) will return to direct in the show’s third season, along with a new director Stefan Schwartz (The Boys, The Walking Dead, Dexter).
