Desperate Housewives and Sports Night alumna Felicity Huffman is set to board Fox’s break out medical drama series Doc in Season 2.
Huffman will take on the role of Dr. Joan Ridley, according to a report from Deadline.
Ridley’s character is described as double-boarded in internal medicine and surgery, she’s the kind of doctor who never has to raise her voice. Incredibly charming and charismatic with a wicked sense of humor that masks her ferocious ambition. She proudly describes herself as an “old-school broad.” She drinks whiskey, smokes the occasional Marlboro red, and treats herself to solo steak dinners.
We soon learn that Joan was Dr. Amy Larsen’s (series lead Molly Parker) med school professor and early mentor — and Amy was her standout student.
Their dynamic is layered, charged, and deeply rooted in mutual respect, with just enough friction to keep it honest which is why Michael (Omar Metwally) offers her the open Chief of Internal Medicine job at Westside, succeeding Dr. Richard Miller (Scott Poter). While it’s true that she’s here to help Amy, and the rest of the department, she also has a secret that’s motivating her even more.
Doc was renewed for a full 22-episode second season in February — a no brainer, as the freshman series’ premiere scrubbed in at over 16 million viewers, making it the network’s most watched debut in over five years.
“We are thrilled that audiences have embraced Season One of Doc,” said Michael Thorn, President of the Fox Television Network at the time. “Renewing for a second season was an easy decision, thanks to this incredible team, our partners at Sony, and an exceptional cast, led by the talented Molly Parker.”
Doc follows the story of Dr. Amy Larsen (Parker), the hard-charging, brilliant ex-Chief of Internal and Family Medicine at Westside Hospital and her colleagues, loved ones and rivals who must navigate a new reality when she returns to work after a brain injury erases the past eight years of her life.
The series also stars Omar Metwally (The Affair), Amirah Vann (How to Get Away with Murder), Jon Ecker (Firefly Lane) and Anya Banerjee (The Blacklist).
Season One featured recurring guest stars Scott Wolf (Party of Five) and Patrick Walker (Lessons in Chemistry).
Doc returns as part of Fox’s 2025/26 primetime programming slate.
