Sideshow and Janus Films’ double Academy Award nominated film Flow makes its streaming debut on Max in the U.S. on Friday, January 14. (The film will debut on HBO linear on Saturday, February 15 at 6:30 p.m. ET.)

The Latvian film is notably completely rendered on the open-source software Blender, and contains no dialogue.

Flow tells the curious story of a cat, a capybara, a dog, a ring-tailed lemur, and a bird who find themselves stranded on a boat together in the aftermath of a devastating tsunami. As the boat takes the unlikely friends on a sometimes perilous and often wondrous journey downstream, the creatures must learn to accept what has been lost, adapt to their new situation — and learn to trust each other.

The movie, directed by Gints Zilbalodis and written by Zilbalodis and Matīss Kaža, offers viewers a gentle allegory on life and how we choose to navigate its often choppy waters.

Flow was nominated for 2 Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature and Best International Feature (Latvia). The film won the Golden Globe, European Film Award, National Board of Review, New York Film Critics Circle and Los Angeles Films Critics Association awards for Best Animated Feature.

It is nominated for Best Animated Feature and Best International Feature at the Critics Choice Association, Best International Feature at the Independent Spirit Awards and also for 3 Annie Awards, PGA Award, ACE Eddie and Arts Directors Guild Award.
