If you enjoy charming puzzle solvers, narrative gameplay, and liminal spaces then you might just want to check out independent developer Eric Osuna and publisher Dolores Entertainment’s new game A Pizza Delivery, new to Steam over the weekend.
This gentle journey sees players take on the role of Pizza Delivery gal B, setting out to deliver her last orders of the day. Hop on your trusty vespa and take those pizzas to their final destinations before they get cold!
However, pizzas aren’t the only things that need to be nudged to their final destinations in A Pizza Delivery, and B soon finds herself travelling through a surreal world of bizarre landscapes and liminal spaces with each new order taken. Come to think of it, how did B get here? How long has she been doing this? And where exactly is she going?

Along the way, B will meet a number of characters whose lives are stuck in limbo — a promising young maths wiz who would rather express his creative side, a disillusioned woman whose parents have rejected her based on her gender preference, a young man feeling the weight of impending fatherhood, and more.
By sitting with each character, and sharing a slice of za, B learns their stories, and helps them move on to where they are supposed to be. Along the way B will learn more about herself too. There are 8 musical box collectibles, and several “memories” littered throughout the game for players to find.
Pizza delivery isn’t just a matter of driving your bike in the right direction. Flooded sections, impassible gates, and even rain can threaten to derail a delivery. B will need to make use of levers, clay stars, and even conveyor belts in order to solve puzzles and move on to the next customer.

A Pizza Delivery is dreamily evocative of emotional games like Journey, Flower, and this year’s Herdling, in which the journey is as important as the destination. This is a gentle experience with puzzles that won’t spoil an air of quiet introspection, and diverse visually compelling environments that linger in the mind’s eye after the credits roll. Themes on isolation, grief, painful memories, and the peace that comes with letting go, are explored with a light and tender touch.
A Pizza Delivery is a relatively short gaming experience at just two hours in duration, but for the price point (€13.99 /approx $16, with a discount of 20% during the first 2 weeks) we can’t really complain. We would have liked to have encountered even more characters along B’s journey, and learned more about B herself. As it stands, her journey comes to a somewhat ambiguous end that will no doubt divide players as to its final meaning.
