Cyan Worlds has officially announced that the modern remakes of the seminal adventure games Myst and Riven will launch for PlayStation 5 and PS VR2 on May 19, 2026.

These rebuilt versions of the 1990s classics have been designed to support both traditional flatscreen play and VR within a single package. Priced at $34.99 each, the titles arrive on the PlayStation Store following a long history of success for the franchise, including the original Myst’s decade-long tenure as the world’s best-selling PC game.

Myst, first launched in 1993, saw players travel via a special book to a mysterious island called Myst. There they had to interact with a series of objects and solve puzzles to navigate the island. The island’s various locales were displayed as intricate and colorful pre-rendered images that captured the imaginations of an audience used to pixels and low-poly environments. Solving the island’s various puzzles allowed the player to travel to other worlds (Ages), which in turn eventually revealed the backstory of the game’s characters and helped the player make the choice of whom to aid.

Myst

The 1997 sequel Riven was set after the events of its predecessor, in a world slowly falling apart due to destructive rule. Having rescued Atrus, who had been trapped by his sons, the player character is then tasked with freeing his wife from his power-hungry father, Gehn.

On the technical front, both games are confirmed as PS5 Pro Enhanced titles, offering improved graphical fidelity through increased draw distances, denser foliage, and higher-resolution textures.

Players on both the standard PS5 and the Pro model will have the choice between visual quality and fluid performance. Enabling ray-traced reflections in flatscreen mode will target 30 FPS, while a dedicated Performance Mode allows for 60 FPS by utilizing screen-space reflections.

VR users will also benefit from the extra power of the PS5 Pro via a higher base render resolution for a sharper image.

The development team at Cyan utilized Unreal Engine and Temporal Super Resolution (TSR) to modernize the visuals while implementing lessons learned from their previous title, Firmament including complaints of mouse and keyboard clunkiness, processing power, and resolution issues.

Notably, both Myst and Riven will support the PlayStation 5’s new Power Saver mode, which scales back the resolution and frame rate to reduce energy consumption.

Myst and Riven are available for wish listing starting today.
