Game studio Remedy Entertainment has announced that upcoming project Control 2 will be an Action RPG.
The news came as part of Remedy’s announcements during their investors’ Capital Markets day.
Control 2, with an estimated budget of €50M, is a sequel to Remedy’s 2019 supernatural action adventure hit Control.
In Control, players directed Jesse Faden (Courtney Hope) through The Oldest House, a secretive New York based agency now invaded by an otherworldly threat known as The Hiss. Jesse takes on the role of the new Director of the FBC (Federal Bureau of Control) and navigates the ever-shifting building searching for her brother Dylan (Sean Durrie), and answers to her most important questions. Along the way Jesse is guided by a set of instructional videos left by the eccentric and awkward Head of Research, Dr. Casper Darling (Matthew Porretta), before his own mysterious disappearance.
Remedy previously reported that Control 2 is currently in the production readiness phase of development. It is estimated the highly anticipated sequel will need 3 to 4 million sales in order to break even. Last years juggernaut and critical darling Alan Wake 2 has sold 1.8 million units to date.
2025’s FBC Firebreak, Remedy’s first multi-player title, has a budget of €30 million.
Remedy also stated today that the original Control game will receive a free update in early 2025, unlocking some previously released content.
Fans were treated to a first glimpse of Control 2 in the Alan Wake 2 DLC The Lake House, in which the game’s ending revealed Dylan Faden, brother of Control’s protagonist Jesse Faden. (Spoilers in the following paragraph.)
Dylan remains inside his glass prison cell, but notes that “something has changed” and asks the player (Janina Gavankar’s Agent Kiran Estevez) to relay the message to his sister. A series of flashing images appear to show New York under siege from a supernatural force. Circular patterns recur as a supernatural theme. This new footage seems to suggest players may be able to explore outside of The Oldest House for the first time.
Meanwhile, Control Ultimate Edition will release on Mac in February 2025.
