USA Network has given a series order to The Rainmaker from Lionsgate and Blumhouse Television.
The news comes as Lionsgate and Blumhouse’s recent team up on a multi-picture film deal reimagining classics from the Lionsgate library gets underway.
The new drama series, based on John Grisham’s 1995 novel and the 1997 Matthew Damon-starring film of the same name, focuses on fresh out of law school graduate, Rudy Baylor, who goes head-to-head with courtroom lion Leo Drummond as well as his law school girlfriend.
Rudy, along with his boss and her disheveled paralegal, uncover two connected conspiracies surrounding the mysterious death of their client’s son.
In the 1997 movie written and directed by Francis Ford Coppola, Matt Damon starred as Rudy, with Danny DeVito as morally ambiguous paralegal Deck. Mickey Rourke, Jon Voight, and Mary Kay Place also starred.
As yet, no casting details have been announced by USA Network.
Jason Richman (Stumptown, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon) and Michael Seitzman (Code Black, Intelligence), co-wrote the pilot.
Executive producing alongside Richman and Seitzman are John Grisham, David Gernert and Jason Blum.
Seitzman is repped by WME and Paul Hastings, and Richman by CAA, Fuel Filmworks and Sloane Offer Weber & Dern.
USA Network is part of NBCUniversal’s Entertainment portfolio, which includes NBC, Bravo, E!, Oxygen True Crime, SYFY, Universal Kids, USA Network and Peacock.
