NBC has renewed its flagship series for a ninth season, it was revealed today.
The Blacklist, a long-running crime thriller starring James Spader and Megan Boone pits Raymond Reddington (Spader), aka the Concierge of Crime, against the world’s most dangerous and deadly criminals, with the assistance of an off the books FBI team.
Treading a fine line between bringing these criminals to justice and reluctantly assisting Red to consolidate his position of power over his enemies, Team leader Elizabeth Keen shares a mysterious bond with Reddington that has kept fans guessing over the course of the series.
Through its first two episodes, the current season of The Blacklist averaged 1.2 in 18-49, with the Nov. 13 premiere reaching 7.5 million viewers in total audience measurement. During the 2019-2020 season, the series reached nearly 39 million total viewers across linear and digital platforms.
In Season, 8 Red’s back is against the wall when his protégé Liz (Boone) turns against him following the murder of infamous Russian spy Katarina Rostova, the woman she assumes to be her mother, at Red’s hands.
Now Liz must decide how far she is willing to go to find out why Reddington has entered her life and what his endgame really is.
The fallout between Reddington and Keen will have devastating consequences for all that lie in their wake, including the Task Force they helped to create.
The Blacklist also stars Diego Klattenhoff, Amir Arison, Hisham Tawfiq, Laura Sohn and Harry Lennix.
John Eisendrath, Jon Bokenkamp, John Davis and John Fox of Davis Entertainment, James Spader, Lukas Reiter, Laura A. Benson, Daniel Cerone and Sean Hennen serve as executive producers.
