Schitt’s creek star Annie Murphy, who played the vapid socialite Alexis Rose on the beloved CBC Television series, is set for darker territory when she boards Netflix’s Russian Doll in season 2.
The series, which premiered on Netflix in February 2019, follows a Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) on her journey as the guest of honor at a seemingly inescapable party one night in New York City.
As Nadia soon discovers, she is repeatedly dying in a series of accidents and misadventures only to suddenly find herself back at her birthday party, very much alive again, and reliving the same night over and over, until she faces hidden trauma from her past.
Unknown to Nadia, a young man across town is facing the same dilemma. When their paths cross, Nadia attempts to help him, but soon discovers their universe is shrinking and they are both in a race against time to save each other.
The self-contained 8 episode first season ended Nadia’s story on a definitive note, prompting much speculation about where a second season might take the story and its characters.
To date, little else is known about Murphy’s role in Season 2. Meanwhile, she can be seen in AMC’s Kevin Can F*ck Himself, expected to premiere summer 2021.
