Prime Video has given the green light to a new TV adaptation of Stephen King’s famous horror story Carrie, it was revealed today.

Mike Flanagan, the mind behind The Haunting of Hill House, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher and other recent successful horror series for Netflix is onboard to write, executive produce, and showrun the new 8-episode series.

With casting already under way, Deadline reports newcomer Summer H. Howell (Hunter Hunter) is in negotiations for the title character, Carrie White, with Siena Agudong (Resident Evil) tipped to play her nemesis, Sue Snell.

Carrie is an iconic story that has withstood the test of time with continued cultural relevance,” commented Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios.

“With Mike Flanagan at the helm and the accomplished team assembled including executive producer Trevor Macy this provocative series is sure to captivate our global customers.”

Written in 1974, King’s debut novel Carrie centers on Carrie White, a friendless, mocked, and bullied high school girl from an abusive religious household who discovers she has telekinetic powers. The book was adapted to film by Brian De Palma in 1976 and starred Silly Spacek in the title role.

The series is produced by Amazon MGM Studios.
