How many behind the scenes rumors from big screen superhero franchises can you spot in the new trailer for HBO’s The Franchise? Because we see at least a couple.
The new comedy series from HBO follows a hapless film crew who find themselves trapped inside the dysfunctional, nonsensical, joyous hellscape of franchise superhero moviemaking.
Petty directors, sycophantic assistants, accusations of sexism in the studio, leading men going off the rails, body-enhancing drugs, and dialogue and effects that would challenge even the most forgiving sci-fi fan, The Franchise leaves no embarrassing footnote in the annals of sci-fi filmmaking unexplored.
The 8 episode series kicks off on Sunday, Oct 6 at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on Max, followed by one new episode weekly through Sunday, November 24.
The series, from Sam Mendes and writer and showrunner Jon Brown stars Himesh Patel as Daniel, Aya Cash as Anita, Jessica Hynes as Steph, Billy Magnussen as Adam, Lolly Adefope as Dag, Darren Goldstein as Pat, and Isaac Powell as Bryson.
Richard E. Grant (as Peter) and Daniel Brühl (as Eric) recur throughout.
Executive producers are Sam Mendes, Pippa Harris, Nicolas Brown, and Julie Pastor for Neal Street Productions; Armando Iannucci for Dundee Productions; and Jon Brown, and Jim Kleverweis.
