Tragedy strikes in tonight’s episode of Rescue: HI-Surf.
The episode, titled “XXL” sees the North Beach bracing for 60 ft waves, as the region experiences its most adverse ocean conditions in years.
As tourists and thrill-seekers race to the shore, Sonny and the team brace for any number of expected rescue emergencies, while Em and Jenn (guest star Sea Shimooka), take a day off to surf the waves with an experienced group of pro-surfers.
However when Kainalu’s father pressures him to leave his shift at the beginning of the day to help him with his campaign, tower partner Hina is left to reconsider her options, and pushes Sonny to take her on as rescue-ski backup for the day.

Everything goes swimmingly (pardon the pun) until tragedy strikes, and Sonny’s emotions boil over in the aftermath as he focuses on how an untimely and heartbreaking death could have been prevented.
The tragedy will bring two characters closer in the episode’s final moments, and serve to drive a rift between Em and Sonny.
