Ballard is coming your way on Wednesday, July 9.
This latest chapter in the Bosch universe centers on cold case Detective Renée Ballard, who together with a motley crew of reservists and volunteers work to solve the cases the LAPD have given up on.
Demoted from Homicide and thrown the city’s most puzzling cases, Ballard is determined to succeed against the odds. Her new cold case unit is underfunded, under-represented, but also underestimated. Tackling a high-profile unsolved murder against a ticking clock and the mystery behind the death of an unclaimed John Doe, this first season finds the team digging up the past — including a serial killer’s string of murders — to get at a truth that may involve a dangerous conspiracy within the LAPD in the present day.
Based on the bestselling books by Michael Connelly, the new series stars Maggie Q, who returns to the role of Ballard following her stint in Bosch: Legacy’s third season.
Courtney Taylor also stars as Zamira Parker, a disillusioned ex LAPD officer who finds she and the tenacious and scrappy Ballard have more in common than they might have thought.
John Carroll Lynch meanwhile takes on the role of Tommy Laffont, a generous spirit who must balance a well-meaning nature with his duties as the cold case unit’s only active serving officer.

We caught up with Maggie, Courtney and John during Prime Video’s Ballard press junket recently and quizzed them (briefly) on how and where we find their characters at the start of the show, and how their individual personal dynamics, for better or worse, set the stage for the season ahead.
Ballard drops all 10 episodes on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 on Prime Video.
